Classrooms for P.S.8

The Department of Education (“DOE”) has responded to PS 8's appeal for more space to relieve the classroom crowding. This fall, we will see two trailers, with two classrooms each, parked in the teachers' lot behind the school. Although the idea of trailers may take some getting used to, gaining four new classrooms means that PS 8's popular pre-K program will continue unchanged, with two all day classes. The DOE continues to reassess PS 8's space needs in light of future residential development in the area. Meanwhile, PS 8's energetic PTA has launched its most ambitious fundraising effort to date, geared towards the hiring of teaching assistants and preserving its excellent enrichment programs. The BHA recently donated $1000 to the school and we plan to give more. BHA members and others in the community can support the school in
several ways: 1) Visit the PTA website at www.ps8pta.org and make an
online tax deductible donation. From the homepage, the process is user
friendly as well as secure. Or you may mail a check to: PS
8 PTA, 37 Hicks Street, Brooklyn, NY 11201. 2) Come, and bring friends, to the
Scholastic Book Fair at PS 8 on May 2 (3:30-6 PM) and May 3(noon-4PM).
The school receives a portion of each sale. Also, you are encouraged
to donate books from the faculty wish lists for PS 8's classrooms.
3) Take your children to the Paddlewheeler Festival for fun and games
in the school on Saturday, May 10th from 10-1.
